New terminus building fuels anticipation for extension of tram line 7

30. October 2025

At the end of 2026, Line 7 is to be extended via the main station to the new Stadtpark terminus. To this end, the new terminus building (EHG) at Berliner Platz in the north of Nuremberg was recently presented to the public. As part of the revitalisation of the so-called Stadtparkschleife and the expansion of Bayreuther Straße, the new building is to become a contact point for public transport users.

The building houses a kiosk, a lounge for VAG employees and a public toilet. The actual design is the result of a small urban planning competition and was developed by NOMAS Architects. Coordination and operational management were carried out by PB Consult.

The classic house shape, which blends harmoniously into the existing square and is reminiscent of Otto H. Weiß's historic community centre (1939-1940), is considered a historical reminiscence of the design idea. The green shell that envelops the building like a monolith gives the terminus building a unique character. This creates a green, people- and nature-friendly, climate-conscious meeting place between the surrounding traffic areas where people can linger, wait and take a break.

  • Greening also offers the following urban planning advantages:
  • Protection of the roof covering from UV radiation, heat, cold and hail
  • Improved sound insulation
  • Thermal insulation to reduce heating and cooling costs
  • Retention of rainwater
  • Improvement of the microclimate through dust binding
  • Prevention of sealing and creation of new habitats for plants and animals
  • Planted roofs humidify the air and provide cooling, which improves the microclimate in urban areas
