Traffic simulations are computer-aided models that are used to analyse and estimate the traffic flows on roads, motorways and other traffic routes. They are based on algorithms and information on traffic infrastructure, traffic volume and behaviour patterns of the traffic participants. Using a traffic simulation, various scenarios and traffic conditions can be tested virtually, for example, to analyse and evaluate the effects of traffic planning measures such as traffic control, changes in traffic infrastructure and traffic light controls.
Development of a new model or refinement of an existing model
Consideration of further planned projects in the extended study area
Calibration and validation based on traffic counts
Simulation of various scenarios
Analysis and comparison of the simulation variants (based on performance calculations or congestion length measurements)
Derivation of recommendations for action
